The collection consists of the personal papers of George J. Kollock and the Kollock family from 1815-1889. Early letters are addressed to George while he attended Round Hill Academy in Northampton, Massachusetts. Later letters include those to and from his wife, Susan; their children; and other family members. Most letters relate to family matters, day-to-day circumstances and living conditions, and travel between their home in Clarksville and Savannah. Of particular interest are letters from son, J.F. Kollock while attending Franklin College (now the University of Georgia); correspondence from E.H. (or F.) Campbell of Augusta, Georgia describing the yellow fever epidemic of 1854; and letters from W.P. Johnson and wife M.E., describing trips to Paris, France and Washington, D.C. describing the construction of the Smithsonian Institute and the Washington Monument.

The collection consists of personal papers of E. Merton Coulter from 1898-1981. The papers include correspondence, clippings, diaries, financial records (1920-1977), lecture notes, student papers, grade books (1914-1958), and writings of others, as well as printed material, photographs, and slides pertaining to Georgia or Coulter's travels abroad. The correspondence (1898-1981) includes carbons (1946-1979) of Coulter's outgoing letters and incoming correspondence to Coulter from scholars, publishers, and former students. The correspondence reflects Coulter's activities at the University of Georgia (1919-1958); the publication of his books and articles; his activities with the American Historical Association, the Southern Historical Association, and the Georgia Civil War Centennial Commission; and his association with various historians. The most extensive group of correspondence (1929-1965) is with Roland M. Harper of the University of Alabama. The diaries (1910-1981, with gaps) contain often lengthy but sporadic entries describing Coulter's travels, his writings, his opinion of Georgia politics, and his daily activities. After 1952, the entries become very brief and focus on his daily activities.

note While the chronological bulk of the records from the Frederick C. Davison Papers covers his tenure as President of the University of Georgia from 1967 to 1986, there are also documents to be found in the papers dating from as early as 1937 and as recently as 1988. The broad groupings within the Davison papers do not break geographically into cohesive series, beyond certain interactions with entities such as the university system Board of Regents, but it is fair to characterize several broad subject categories as series by virtue of the volume of records present in the accession. Horace T. Ward: Desegregation of the University of Georgia, Civil Rights Advocacy, and Jurisprudence documents Horace Ward, the first African American to sue for admission to an all-white college or university in Georgia. The papers are mainly photocopies of transcripts from court cases, clippings, and correspondence from former University of Georgia law professor James J. Lenoir and Red and Black student editor Walter Lundy, both of whom resigned positions at the university due to the school's resistance to desegregation. Specific court cases documented include Ward v. Regents of the University System of Georgia and Holmes v. Danner.

S. Eugene Younts papers consists of administrative files that date from 1967 to 2011. These files are directly related to Younts daily work activities. Series two focuses on the new faculty tours that Younts created and led from 1977 to 1999. There are numerous photographs and slide included in this series. Series three, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation files, dates from 1977 to 1992. This part of the collection highlights the University of Georgia projects that the Foundation helped fund during those years. The fourth series, subject files, holds mainly Younts' speech, research and book materials from the 1950s through 2012. The fifth series consists of appointment calendars with Younts' daily activities noted. These calendars date from 1970 to 1999.

The collection consists of papers of the Tate family of Gordon and Pickens counties, Georgia from ca. 1849-1975. The papers consist primarily of correspondence, both business and personal. The business correspondence relates to the Tates' involvement in the Georgia Marble Company (Tate, Georgia) and the Kennesaw Marble Company (Marietta, Ga.). The personal correspondence is mainly between Edna Ferguson Tate and her children Sarah and William Tate. Sarah's letters are from Agnes Scott College (Decatur, Ga.) where she was a student and from Orlando (Fla.) where she took a teaching job. William's letters are first as a student and later as an instructor and Dean of Men at the University of Georgia and contain a substantial amount of material relating to activities at the University and events in Athens, Georgia. Other correspondents include Philip May Tate, Stephen C. Tate, Florence M. Tate, and Samuel Tate. The collection also contains photographs of the Tate family and the Georgia Marble Company; account books ca. 1882-1904 pertaining to Sam'l & S.L. Tate & Co. (a general store) and the Georgia Marble Company; and materials relating to the history of Pickens County (Ga.).

Genealogical information is included on the Everett, Burke, Brinson, Foy, Dasher, and Anderson families of Effingham, Screven, Richmond, Jefferson, Emanuel, and Houston counties. Varied papers and pictures are included concerning the Overstreet and Scott families of Emanuel County, and the Braun family of Cleveland, Ohio and Daytona Beach, Florida. Included are a letter and telegram from Ernest Neal, poet laureate of Georgia in the 1920s and 1930s. Ambassador Martin J. Hillenbrand served for thirty-five years as a professional United States Foreign Service Officer, including service in Burma, India, Mozambique, Hungary, France, and Germany. He was appointed as the first U.S. Ambassador to Hungary (1967-1969), Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs (1969-1972) and Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany (1972-1976). The collection consists of Hillenbrand's personal papers and provides an overview of his life and career in diplomatic service. The papers also document his academic career at The University of Georgia (1982-1997) and involvement in international diplomatic organizations. Of particular interest are his personal, hand-written journals and notebooks which begin with adolescence and extend through retirement. Included in the collection are published and unpublished articles, drafts, speeches, notes, journals, correspondence, clippings, photographs, artifacts and audiovisual material.

This collection documents the life of William H. (Bill) Burson (1928-1997) and the various positions he held under Senator Herman Talmadge; Governors Carl Sanders, Lester Maddox, and Jimmy Carter; and Lieutenant Governor Zell Miller. Burson graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in Journalism in 1948 and served as a war correspondent in the Korean War. After the war, Burson served as an aide to Senator Herman Talmadge and later to Governor Carl Sanders. In 1967, the newly elected governor, Lester Maddox, appointed him to be director of the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services. Over the next three years Burson fought a "War on Hunger" attempting to create food stamps programs across Georgia. Burson was elected as State Treasurer in 1970 and campaigned for the U.S. Senate in 1972. After losing the senatorial campaign, Burson worked as a lobbyist for business interests in the Southeast. In 1975, he became Zell Miller's administrative and special assistant, a position he held until his retirement in 1991. The collection is comprised primarily of twenty-five scrapbooks that detail Burson's life and career from 1933 to 1991. Also included are photographs, editorial cartoons, books, certificates, and plaques.
